Job Summary
The Credit Manager will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the credit policies, assessment processes, and portfolio performance of the BNPL function. The Credit Manager will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the credit policies, assessment processes, and portfolio performance of the BNPL function. This role ensures that credit is extended responsibly, collection strategies are effective, and credit risk is balanced with business growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in credit risk management, excellent analytical capabilities, and a deep understanding of the BNPL or digital lending space.
- Develop and implement credit risk assessment frameworks, scoring models, and policies tailored to the BNPL customer base, ensuring a balance between portfolio growth and risk control.
- Oversee credit decisioning processes to ensure accurate and timely credit approvals, rejections, or escalations based on pre-defined credit risk parameters.
- Analyze customer data, payment behavior, and portfolio trends to enhance credit strategies and minimize delinquency rates and default risk.
- Monitor credit KPIs (e.g., approval rates, delinquency, DPD buckets, write-offs, and recovery rates) and provide detailed reporting to senior management with insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Risk, Collections, and Tech teams to implement new credit initiatives, automated decision engines, or policy adjustments.
- Design and review credit limit assignment and adjustment strategies to optimize customer engagement while maintaining portfolio quality.
- Ensure full compliance with internal risk appetite statements and external regulations governing credit practices, especially in the digital lending/BNPL space.
- Work closely with the Collections team to align risk-based segmentation and treatment strategies for overdue accounts.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance the BNPL credit lifecycle—including onboarding, underwriting, monitoring, and recovery.
- Provide guidance and training to credit analysts and related team members on credit risk principles and evolving policy changes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CRMA, Credit Risk certification) are a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in credit risk management, with at least 2 years in BNPL, digital lending, microfinance, or fintech environments.
- Strong understanding of credit assessment, scoring models, and lending lifecycle within consumer credit or BNPL frameworks.
- Proven track record of managing credit policies, analytics, and reporting in fast-paced financial services or fintech settings.
- High analytical and decision-making capabilities, with experience using credit modeling tools and dashboards.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance related to credit practices and consumer finance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across risk, product, and tech teams.
